For an advanced typography class project that involved devising a beer brand based on some aspect of your personality, I created Rustad’s Beer, a potable embodiment of my hometown of Petaluma, California. The branding is based on Petaluma’s historic architecture. The town was founded in the 19th century and boasts Victorian storefronts, decommissioned mills, docks, and a clock tower. Much of the town feels as though it is frozen in the past, so the branding of Rustad’s Beer nostalgically captures the spirit of a bygone era. The labels channel the dense, cluttered aesthetic of antique packaging. Since Petaluma is famous for its poultry industry the design features an illustration of a chicken.
